Scalecoat Paint Removers & Airbrush Cleaner

Choose the right Scalecoat paint remover or cleaner for the job before you begin a repaint. Removing paint from a model shell and cleaning an airbrush are different tasks. This collection brings together Wash Away, Metal Stripper and Airbrush Cleaner, with each product intended for a different material or use.

Wash Away: paint removal from suitable plastic models

Scalecoat Wash Away, 16 oz, is for removing paint from suitable plastic model shells. Plastic formulations and factory finishes vary, so test a hidden area before treating the complete model. Wash Away is not recommended for Kato or resin models. Use an appropriate soaking container and follow the label for removal and rinsing. Never use it in an ultrasonic cleaner or a similar machine.

Metal Stripper: brass and metal repaints

Scalecoat Metal Stripper, 32 oz, is intended for paint removal from brass and metal models. It is not recommended for plastic or resin models. Check an assembled model for nonmetal parts before choosing this product, and follow the label for soaking, removing loosened paint and rinsing before refinishing.

Airbrush Cleaner: equipment cleanup after painting

Scalecoat Airbrush Cleaner, 8 oz, is for solvent-paint residue in airbrushes and painting tools after Scalecoat I or II use. Check equipment and seal compatibility, and do not soak airbrush parts for extended periods. It is not compatible with water-based paints.

After stripping a model, inspect and prepare the surface before choosing primer and new paint. For reducing paint viscosity, use the appropriate paint thinner rather than a remover or cleaner. Follow all product label safety instructions.
