Scalecoat Model Paint & Finishing Supplies

Build your next paint and lettering project around Scalecoat model paint and finishing supplies. At Fusion Scale Graphics, you can browse named railroad colors for locomotives, freight cars and passenger equipment, then choose the thinner, clear finish and decal setting solution that fit your project. The range also includes primers, paint removers and practical tools for the model workbench.

Scalecoat I or Scalecoat II: which paint line should you choose?

Start with the material you are painting. Scalecoat I is the line for brass and metal model projects. Scalecoat II is the line for plastic models. A color name alone does not identify the paint system: check the line and part number on the listing, especially when replacing a bottle from an older project. Use the dedicated Scalecoat I or II thinner for the selected line.

Plan the color, lettering and final finish together

Browse Scalecoat model paints by railroad color and part number, or explore metallic colors and weathering and scenery colors. Compare a cured paint sample with your reference before committing to a complete model. Prototype paint, lighting and weathering can all affect how a color appears.

For a repaint, choose a paint remover suited to the model material, then prepare the surface and select the appropriate primer. Plan for gloss, satin or flat clear coats and ProSet decal setting solution when adding lettering. Test your paint, decals and clear coat together on a sample before using them on the finished model.

Complete your bench setup with jars, caps, pipettes and wheel painting jigs, wood sanding sealer and paint additives, or model soldering supplies. Follow each product's label for application and safety instructions.
