Scalecoat I Model Paint

Choose Scalecoat I model paint for brass locomotives, metal rolling stock and metal detail projects. The range includes named railroad colors as well as primers, metallic colors and clear finishes, so you can plan the color and finish of a repaint within the Scalecoat I line.

Prepare brass and metal before painting

Inspect the model for oils, fingerprints, dust, soldering residue and any existing coating that could interfere with the new finish. Clean the surface and follow the product label for preparation and primer requirements. A model can contain several materials, so assess plastic inserts, glazing and other attached parts separately rather than assuming the entire assembly is metal.

Match the color, thinner and finish

Check the full color name and part number when matching an existing paint scheme. Mix settled pigment back into the paint before evaluating a sample, then compare the cured color with your reference. Use Scalecoat I thinner when thinning is needed; Scalecoat II thinner and Universal Leveling Thinner are not substitutes for this paint line.

For stripped metal repaints, review the material restrictions on Scalecoat Metal Stripper. Find primers and clear coats to complete the finish. If your project involves brass kit assembly before painting, explore ProFlux soldering supplies. Working on a plastic shell instead? Browse Scalecoat II model paint.
