Scalecoat Clear Coats
Choose Scalecoat clear coats to set the final sheen of a model railroad or scale model finish. This collection includes gloss, satin and flat clear finishes in the Scalecoat I and II ranges. Select the clear by both its sheen and its paint line, then test it with the paint and decals used on your project.
Gloss, satin or flat?
- Gloss: choose when your project calls for a shiny finish or when planning a smooth surface for decal application.
- Satin: choose when you want a sheen between a reflective gloss and a flat finish.
- Flat: choose for a low-sheen appearance on models, scenery or weathered subjects where a shiny finish would look out of place.
The finished appearance also depends on surface preparation and application. Compare a sample under your display lighting before coating the complete model, especially when matching the sheen of existing equipment.
Check compatibility before coating lettering
A clear finish must work with the underlying paint, decal film, printed artwork and any weathering materials. Let earlier layers dry as directed and test the complete combination on a sample. Use the dedicated thinner specified for the clear's Scalecoat I or II line.
Pair your clear selection with ProSet decal setting solution and the appropriate Scalecoat model paint. A clear coat does not replace proper paint curing or careful decal application.
