Scalecoat II Model Paint

Browse Scalecoat II model paint for plastic locomotive shells, freight cars, passenger equipment and scale model projects. Choose named railroad colors or general modeling colors, then check the individual listing for the part number, bottle size and finish needed for your build.

Start with a clean, tested surface

Remove oils, fingerprints, dust and mold release before painting. Plastic formulations, factory coatings and previously applied finishes can vary, so test the planned preparation and paint system on a spare part or hidden area. Do not assume resin, glazing or every attached detail will respond in the same way as the main plastic shell.

Plan a complete paint and decal finish

Mix the paint thoroughly, including pigment settled at the bottom of the jar. When thinning is needed, select dedicated Scalecoat II thinner and follow the paint label for application and drying. Scalecoat I thinner and Universal Leveling Thinner are not substitutes for the Scalecoat II paint system.

Compare a cured sample with your prototype reference and check how the color looks beside the lettering and adjoining parts. Browse gray primers, gloss, satin and flat clear coats, and ProSet decal setting solution as you plan the finish. For stripping an older plastic shell, read the specific restrictions on Wash Away paint remover before use.
